QuikClot has been on my radar for a long time. It is truly a life saving item. QuikClot is a bleeding control dressing that uses kaolin, an inorganic mineral, that accelerates the body’s natural clotting ability and helps blood clot up to five times faster than blood on its own. It is safe and easy to use and comes in an easy-tear, vacuum-sealed pouch.
QuikClot has been used in the military for the past 10 years. They have many stats and reports on how this product has saved the lives of thousands of servicemen and civilians in the field. In fact, it was just used by emergency personnel in the Arkansas night club shooting a couple of weeks ago to save lives. It can also be used on animals.
If you sever an artery in your arm or leg you can easily use a tourniquet to stop the bleeding and safe a life. However, what happens if the injury is in the torso or the head? You cannot use a tourniquet but you need something to stop the bleeding so the person does not bleed out and die. (Note: QuikClot can absolutely be used on any of the limbs as well, especially if you don’t have a tourniquet readily available – I just read a story about a deer hunter who accidentally sliced his thigh while cleaning his deer – QuikClot saved him!).
Everyone needs this item in their first aid kits. Great item to keep in your car as well.
