Walk Away

5 day survival What you can push, pull, or carry

In this scenario you are forced to leave your home on foot with whatever you can push, pull or carry.  The items you take should help you survive for FIVE DAYS.  Remember, the key word here is survival. Past experience tells us that emergency personnel cannot get to everyone within 3 days. You need to be prepared to be self sufficient for five days. Hopefully within that time, resources will come to you or you can secure more resources.

How much food and water do you need to survive?

The US Coast Guard recommends 8 oz of water and 800 calories per day to survive. Remember this is for short term emergency survival.

Build a Pack for Everyone in Your Family

I am often asked if each individual needs their own pack. The answer is - YES! Every person needs their own self sustaining pack. First, a single pack for multiple people is very heavy. Second, sometimes you get separated. It may be because of an injury, someone leaving to get help or supplies, or other circumstances out of your control. If you are separated for any reason, then each member of your family will have a life sustaining pack until you can reunite.
