Drive Away
extended survival What you can take in your car
In this scenario you must leave your home but you can DRIVE AWAY. The items you can now take with you are expanded and can make you more comfortable. We are one step above survival mode. Make a Grab and Go List. Write down everything you would like to take with you if you had to leave your home. Then PRIORITIZE the list. When the time comes to evacuate start at the top of the list and grab everything you can until you must leave. If you only have 5 minutes you may only get the first 5 items on the list, but they will be the most important items. If you have an hour, you may be able to grab everything on your list. The critical part is to have a list.
Plan to store 5 gallons of portable water per person.
Five gallons of water weighs about 40 lbs. If you cannot lift 40 lbs. plan to store water in smaller containers that you could easily lift into your car.

Build a Drive Away Pack for Your Family
The first two items on your Grab and Go list should be your 5 Day Prep Packs and your Prepare My Life Planner from the Walk Away scenario. Now that you have more space let's work on making you more comfortable. Priorities should include more food and more water. Let's start packin'!
TIP: Never let your car get below a half tank of gas. In the event of an emergency evacuation, the last place you want to be is waiting in line at a gas station.
